Description of the monument:

The architecture of the church is an example of the  late stage in the evolution of the "Russian style." The church is crowned with nine cupolas which create an asymmetrical picturesque group. The part of these cupolas are gold-plated, and some - with an enamel. The height of the church  is 81 meters, it holds up to 1,600 people. The headstone, set over the tomb of Alexander II, is different from the white marble headstones other emperors: it is made of gray-green jade.
In the 1930-ies the church was closed and had to be destroyed. This prevented the Great Patriotic War.
There was the  morgue in the church during the Siege of Leningrad.
After the war the church was rented  by the Maliy  Opera theater. In 1968, the cathedral was taken under the protection of the State Inspectorate for Protection, and in July 1970 the branch of the museum "St. Isaac's Cathedral" was opened in this church.
In the 1970- 80 the  restoration works was done.
In August 1997,  Church  of the Savior on the Spilled Blood  was opened to visitors.
